1. Information We Collect

We collect limited information to provide our fishing regulation and marine information services:

• Account Data: Email address provided during sign-in via Google, Facebook, or magic link email authentication.
• Favourites & Saved Locations: Regulation cards and map locations you save to your account.
• Location Data: Your device's GPS coordinates when you use map features. Location data is used locally to display nearby regulations, tide stations, and marine areas. It is not stored on our servers.

2. Authentication

Salty BC offers three sign-in methods: Google OAuth, Facebook Login, and passwordless magic link via email. Authentication is handled securely through Supabase. We do not store passwords. When signing in with Google or Facebook, we receive only your email address and basic profile information — we do not access your contacts, posts, or other social media data.

3. Data Usage

Your data is used solely to:

• Maintain your account and sync favourites across devices.
• Display relevant fishing regulations, closures, and marine information based on your location.
• Provide tide, weather, and forecast data for your selected areas.

We do not sell, share, or provide your personal data to third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Third-Party Services

Salty BC integrates with the following third-party services to provide functionality:

• Supabase: Authentication and data storage.
• Google & Facebook: Optional OAuth sign-in providers.
• Environment and Climate Change Canada: Weather and marine forecast data.
• Canadian Hydrographic Service: Tide prediction data.
• Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO): Fishing regulation data.
• OpenStreetMap & Leaflet: Map tiles and mapping functionality.
• NONNA (CHS): Bathymetric (ocean depth) data.

Each service is governed by its own privacy policy.

5. Data Storage & Security

Account data and favourites are stored securely on Supabase's cloud infrastructure. Location data is processed locally on your device and is not transmitted to or stored on our servers.

6. Data Deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data (including saved regulations and locations) at any time through the "My Account" section within the app. You may also change the email address associated with your account from the same section.

7. Cookies & Local Storage

Salty BC uses browser local storage to save your preferences such as map layer settings, selected filters, and cached location data. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to any server.

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
